Community and Birthing Center

We are so excited to announce that we are ready for Phase One of our Rebuild. We are building a Community Rescue Family Training & Birthing Center in the middle of an extremely poor community. We hope to partner with a Certified Haitian Birthing Center on the Mainland and facilitate a Certified Midwife, Doula and Postpartum Doula Training School alongside the Wesleyan Hospital that we helped to build 2012. Our Center will become a hub we hope for resources, training, networking and education for the entire island.

Children’s Home

Started by Madam Wana, the Orphanage in Mare Sucren in the mountains of LaGonave, is home to 20 children aged 5 months to 18 years. It takes us about one and a half hours to get there from our base in Anse-a-Galets. $800 a month provides basic food, shelter and schooling. In 2015 a new kitchen was built, we have provided water catchment, underground water cistern, triple bunk beds and mattresses, trundle sewing machine and gas cooker. Projects for 2019 include electricity and solar panel installation.

Elderly

In 2015 we re-housed the elderly homeless and some disabled residents from the ‘poor house’ to the ‘House of Hope’ which couples as a Guest House for visiting teams. Our numbers fluctuate regularly as there is great need. The photos show how awful their living situation was. Where they were living there was no showers or bathroom, the tin roof was rusted and leaked which was miserable and like a sieve when it rained, they didn’t have proper beds or matresses and the home was not safe.

Playgrounds

Working with Kids Around the World. u2u has brought playgrounds to disaster zones and transformed them into fun zones. We have already shipped and built four playgrounds in Haiti. Two at orp hanages and one at a Compassion School on the Island and in Easter 2018 we donated and built a playground at a WISH Youth Centre in slums of Anse-a-Galets.
